Welcome to Odell Parish Council

Village Hall

Odell is a small village in North Bedfordshire comprising some 120 households.  The Parish Council is the first tier of local government and comprises seven Councillors and a Clerk.  Councillors give of their time voluntarily to serve the local community and perform the duties expected of a Parish Council.

The Parish Council meets bi-monthly in the Village Hall on a Monday with meetings starting at 7.30 p.m. and all meetings are open to the public.  A list of dates is available on the Events Calendar.

The Parish Council liaises closely with Bedford Borough Council and Bedfordshire County Council [shortly to change to one unitary authority], and the Highways Authority.  Small planning applications are dealt with by a sub-committee but larger or perceived controversial applications are dealt with by the full Parish Council.

In 2006 the Parish Council raised the funds via grants to purchase the Village Hall for the benefit of the local community and this continues to be managed and run by the Village Hall Committee.  The Parish Council is currently seeking finance to build the much needed and long awaited disabled facilities at the hall to enable access to those who currently feel excluded due to the lack of such facilities.  Frequent updates on the progress of this project will be available on this site.

Councillor and Clerk contact details are available under the relevant headings for anyone who wishes to make an enquiry regarding any Parish Council issue.

Please see Current Events for details of the closure information relating to Bridleway No. 31 [Odell] and No. 8 [Felmersham] to allow repairs to the sluice bridge and main bridge - latest update Monday, 20th July 2009.

A new addition to the Current Events page is the submission of two parcels of land in Odell for inclusion in the Local Development Framework - this will be updated when further information is available.

A press cutting of the recent CPRE Awards for Odell projects is now showing on the Current Events page.

Please also keep an eye on the Noticeboard as this is updated frequently. PLEASE  NOTE:  a Bedford Borough Council Schools Admissions leaflet has been published on the Noticeboard; clicking on the Bedford Borough website just above the notice will take you straight to the consultation document.  Although the proposed changes are for September 2011, the consultation closes on 1 March 2010 so please view now.

Frequent additions are made to the Energy Conservation section - please view these frequently.

Please note a new item has been added to the Content - "Local Family History".  Please read and if anyone can help out here, please get in touch. An updated family tree showing ancestors of Edward William Kennedy is now in place - please check!
